Beauty on a Budget
I’ve shopped my own stash of ‘drugstore’ items to highlight those that are good enough to rival premium makeup picks.
Here are my top products to keep you looking your best:
So, numero uno in the picture is my trusty Max Factor false lash effect mascara. This has been a regular in my makeup bag for years now. It’s great for lengthening and definition, and is never clumpy so it stays put. A good one for everyday makeup.
Second we have one of my favourite foundations, ever. It’s the L’Oreal True Match foundation. I’ve honestly not met one person who doesn’t like this. It’s a medium coverage foundation and looks so healthy and flawless on the skin. Fancy a lighter coverage? Try mixing a pump of it with your moisturiser before applying.
Next up, we have eyeshadow sticks from Kiko. If you haven’t heard of this brand before, it’s relatively new to the UK and there are only a few stores here. Think MAC, but on a more purse-friendly budget. I’m all about eyeshadow sticks, they are super easy to use and have a great, intense colour pay off. Simply swipe these over your eyelids and buff out with a fluffy brush. There’s a ton of colours in their range too, so there’s definitely something for everyone.
So number 4 on the palette is their micro brow pencil. It’s awesome. It’s one of many all new products to my stash from a brand named NYX. Again, a slightly newer brand. However, they were bought by L’Oreal recently and are currently rolling out to Boots stores, nationally. I’ve been impressed with so many products from them, I totally recommend you giving something from them a whirl, you won’t regret it!
Another NYX, their liquid liner, it’s jet black and very easy to use.
Sixth, is the NYX blush. They’ve got these in loads of shades. The colour pay off is great, they are the perfect size for a makeup bag and come in a range of finishes.
Seventh, is an eyeshadow quad from super blogger, Fleur De Force. I wasn’t expecting this to be as good as it is in all honesty. But the quality of these eyeshadows are fab, not to mention the colours are very wearable. Regardless of whether you’re a makeup pro or not, you can make these look great on you.
And number 8 on the makeup montage, is the NYX liquid suede lipsticks (wow, can you tell I like this brand?!). I cannot recommend these highly enough. If you want a bold, matte lip colour that lasts for hours yet doesn’t dry your lips out, look no further! I’ve now got four of them…
Products 9 and 12
Products number nine and twelve are from Sleek, a brand available in Superdrug. Sleek is another drugstore favourite of mine. I’ve included their face form contour palette in medium and their blush in rose gold here. Want to contour and highlight without breaking the bank? Look no further! With a matte bronzer, a highlighter and a shimmery bronze shade, this palette is a dream. I like to use the shimmery bronze shade (the one on the right) as a blush too, it’s very natural and flattering. As for the blush, it’s UNREAL. You won’t need a highlighter when you use this because it has the most gorgeous golden shimmer to it and it’s a super-blendable formula.
Number 10, we have the lovely vanilla powder from Bourjois. As someone with combination/oily skin, setting powder is a must. It’s a great compact powder that works so well it may as well be a loose powder, just with a lot less mess! It’s fab for any skin tone as it’s translucent. Try dusting it over your foundation and concealer to set it.
I couldn’t leave out Soap & Glory. Their kick-ass concealer is really kick-ass. A correcting shade, a concealer and a setting powder all in one. Looking worse for wear after a night out? Not anymore thanks to this bad boy.
Last up, lucky number 13, is a Maybelline concealer. It’s their age rewind concealer in yellow. It’s awesome for cancelling out redness and brightening your under-eye area too. Top tip, pop some on your under-eyes, do the rest of your makeup and then buff out right at the end for a SUPER wide-awake look.
Happy guilt-free shopping!
